  • The highly anticipated High School Musical reunion for The Disney Family Singalong special on ABC included only a brief appearance from Zac Efron.

  • The actor introduced his old castmates, saying via video message, "It's my greatest pleasure to introduce a musical performance by some of my oldest friends."

  • His spotty Wi-Fi apparently prevented him from fully participating in the sing-along; still, Twitter was furious.

Maybe it's not all that surprising that Zac Efron, beloved teenage heartthrob of Disney's golden years, skipped out on fully participating in the High School Musical reunion for ABC's Disney Family Singalong. Efron instead introduced his old castmates with a vaguely heartwarming message, saying, "It's my greatest pleasure to introduce a musical performance by some of my oldest friends," before ultimately disappearing for the rest of the special.

After all, this is the same guy who was a no-show at the 10-year anniversary for the epochal Disney film in 2016. And as hard-core fans will remember, Efron technically didn't sing any of the songs in the first movie; Drew Seeley was the voice of Troy Bolton in memorable songs like "Start of Something New" and "Breaking Free," and even replaced Efron in the subsequent High School Musical: The Concert tour.

Still, if Beyoncé can somehow muster her awe-inspiring power to pull off her own cameo during quarantine, then surely it shouldn't have been too burdensome for Efron to do the same? Although Yahoo! Entertainment reported that the actor was actually experiencing "patchy WiFi" that made him unable to fully participate beyond his introductory video call, Twitter was still furious.

As it seems, once a Wildcat, not always a Wildcat.
