Westport Art Group hosts 'Paint the Town' exhibit as part of SouthCoast Spring Arts

WESTPORT — It's a season jam-packed with art.

Westport Art Group is part of SouthCoast Spring Arts again this year, collaborating with over two dozen local arts organizations that are celebrating the arts across the South Coast region in May.

SouthCoast Spring Arts will present a10-day festival celebrating the arts in our communities by connecting innovative, creative, and affordable art and cultural events in communities across the region, from Wareham to Fall River.

WAG kicked off the week with “Women In Art … an artist talk by Robin Nunes.”

Everyone is invited to join the Westport Art Group’s Thursday Morning Painters and paint or sketch en plein air, or come by to watch the artists create. No instructor, friendly critique at noon; free. Begins at 9 a.m. at Westport Point, 2061 Main Rd.

WAG’s spring judged exhibit, “Paint the Town,” opens on Thursday, May 11, and runs until May 28, Thursdays to Sundays, from 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibition will display a diverse variety of media with the artists' creative interpretation of the theme.

Everyone is invited to the opening and awards reception on Friday, May 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards will be announced at 5:30 p.m.

The juror for this exhibition will be Catherine Carter. Carter has taught drawing and painting at colleges and museums for the past 25 years and has her own school at Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford.

This exhibit also has two sponsors, Manchester Interiors and Country Woolens, both of Westport, that will be choosing Sponsor’s Choice awards.
