West Allis police will increase their presence at Lane Intermediate School following a rumor of a threat
West Allis police are investigating a potential threat at Lane Intermediate School and plan to increase their presence there.
Police and school officials became aware of a rumor regarding a potential threat to safety at the school on Dec. 14, according to a Dec. 2 letter sent to parents by Lane Intermediate School Principal Josiah Pledl.
Police are currently investigating the threat, Pledl said.
Because of it, there will be an additional police presence at Lane, 1300 S. 109th St., on Dec. 14 and in the days prior before and after school, he said.
"As a reminder, there are school and legal consequences for these types of rumors," Pledl said in the letter. "We remain committed to maintaining a safe and orderly school environment for all."
The significance of the Dec. 14 date is not known.
When contacted on Friday, district officials said they had no additional information to provide.
West Allis police did not immediately respond to questions about the investigation.
News of the rumored threat comes just days after a 15-year-old student in Michigan shot and killed four classmates at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a suburb about 35 miles north of Detroit. Ethan Crumbley, the boy accused in the shooting, is facing first-degree murder and terrorism charges.
