Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Softball teams finish as undefeated league champs

Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:

SOFTBALL

  • Isabella Serrato allowed three hits and a run with 12 strikeouts in five innings and had two RBIs at the plate, Mariana Palazuelos was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Amaya Smith went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Jadalynn Sovey and Ciara Lopez each had a hit and two RBIs as Rio Mesa beat Channel Islands to finish as undefeated Pacific View League champions. The Spartans went 15-0 in league for their sixth straight league title and are 21-6 overall with one game left in the regular season.

  • Ainsley Berlingeri pitched a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, Gabriela Jaquez hit a solo home run, Rylee Pinedo was 2 for 3 with a double, and Grace Knight went 1 for 2 as Camarillo defeated Royal 1-0 to finish as undefeated Coastal Canyon League champions. The Scorpions went 8-0 in league and are 21-3 overall with one game left in the regular season. Isabella Manory and Madelyn Busby had hits for the Highlanders (14-9, 5-3), who finished tied for second in the league.

  • Mariah Elohim finished 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, Emily Jones was 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, Kaylee MacFarlane had a double and an RBI, and Kaitlyn Bartlow allowed two hits while striking out six in 4.1 innings to lead Westlake to an 11-1 victory over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League game. The Warriors finished 11-4 in league to take second place and 20-5 overall. Amanda Chung was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Victoria Masters had a triple for the Lancers.

  • Mia Cardenas went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Julyssa Tobias was 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and KaiLea Reyes struck out nine without a walk in a complete-game effort and had a hit and an RBI at the plate as Santa Paula defeated Hueneme to finish as undefeated Citrus Coast League champions. Elysia Cortez went 2 for 4, Mariah Hernandez had a hit and two RBIs, and Reina Beltran and Abby Ibarra each had a hit and an RBI for the Cardinals (14-9-1, 8-0).

BASEBALL

  • Cooper Bowen pitched a complete game and also had a hit and an RBI, Will Michelman finished 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs, Noah Thompson went 2 for 3 with a double, and Jack Burke went 2 for 3 to lead Agoura to a 5-3 win over Calabasas in a Marmonte League game. The Chargers (15-12, 8-6) moved to a game of first place with one league game remaining. Nate Castellon was 3 for 4 with a double, Sam Grunberg had a homer and Tyler Shulman was 2 for 4 for the Coyotes (19-8, 9-5), who can still clinch the league title with a win over Agoura on Thursday.

  • Luca Staiano allowed seven hits and one run while striking out six without a walk in seven innings, Landan Nissim pitched a scoreless eighth, Max Amador went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Derek Turner was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Tyler Field had a hit and an RBI to lead Newbury Park (17-10, 6-8) to a 4-1 win over Thousand Oaks (14-11, 7-7) in a Marmonte League game.

BOYS TENNIS

  • Drew Koval of Oak Park defeated teammate Austin Lamy to win the individual singles title in the Coastal Canyon League. Ryan Daniel and Mark Florian of Royal won the league's doubles title.
