Watch: Racing Louisville FC cracks SportsCenter Top 10 with Savannah DeMelo's game-winning goal

Savannah DeMelo's first professional goal proved to be the difference-maker in Racing Louisville FC's first victory of the 2022 season, a 1-0 win against the San Diego Wave and USWNT star Alex Morgan on Wednesday night at Lynn Family Stadium.

It also caught the attention of the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

DeMelo's 27-yard strike appeared on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays to wrap up the 8 a.m. hour of ESPN's flagship program Thursday. The set piece goal began SportsCenter's daily rundown of highlights at No. 10.

With the match tied at 0-0, Racing was awarded a free kick in the 25th minute. DeMelo lined up behind fellow midfielder Jaelin Howell, who drew the defense a bit off guard when she ran toward the ball but did not kick it. DeMelo followed by sending a line drive into the top right corner of the net — past San Diego keeper Kailen Sheridan, a member of the Canadian national team.

DeMelo's goal was just the second scored on San Diego through its first four matches of the 2022 season. It also proved to be the spark Racing needed to lock down its first win of the young campaign after concerns over a COVID-19 outbreak put Wednesday's match in jeopardy and limited practice time in the days leading up to kickoff.

"It shows that we have a lot of depth on this team," DeMelo said after the match, according to Racing Louisville FCs website. "No matter if you never play or if you play all 90 minutes, once you step on the field, I think everyone is equal. I think it showed these past two games.

"I’m just really excited that we got our first win under all those circumstances, and now we know what we have and just carry it forward to this weekend."
