Wife of 'abducted' Ugandan opposition figure says he won't get justice
The wife of Ugandan opposition politician Kizza Besigye has said she does not expect him to get a fair trial after he was detained in neighbouring Kenya, brought home and accused of possessing weapons and other offences in a military court. Winnie Byanyima said last week her husband was seized as he prepared to attend a book launch in Nairobi on Nov. 16 - in what both rights group Amnesty International and a senior official at Kenya's foreign ministry have described as an abduction. Uganda's government spokesperson, Chris Baryomunsi, said last week his country does not carry out abductions, and that arrests abroad were done in collaboration with host countries, but did not comment on the specific case.

Indonesia says Apple's $100 million investment proposal inadequate
Indonesia said a $100 million investment proposal from Apple to build an accessory and component plant was not enough for the country to allow the tech giant to sell its latest iPhone model, its industry ministry said on Monday. Indonesia in November banned sales of Apple's iPhone 16 after it failed to meet requirements that smartphones sold domestically should comprise at least 40% locally-made parts. Indonesia has also banned the sale of Alphabet's Google Pixel phones over a similar lack of use of local components.

Winrevair was approved to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a progressive disorder caused by a constriction of arteries in the lungs, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain and dizziness. Merck said its drug met the main goal of significantly reducing the time to disease worsening, lung transplantation or death in a late-stage study of 172 patients with advanced stages of the condition, already receiving background treatment.

Italy and Japan have signed in Rome a bilateral deal to strengthen cooperation in the defence sector, an Italian statement said on Monday. Italy said Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya signed a deal named ACSA (Acquisition and Cross-Service Agreement). Italy and Japan share with Britain a partnership for the new GCAP project to build an advanced front-line fighter to enter service around the middle of the next decade.
