Watch: Columbus Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson shows off 'Michigan' goal at worlds

Kent Johnson hasn't had much of an opportunity to turn heads since being selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NHL draft.

But Johnson gave the Blue Jackets a preview of his offensive ability at the world junior hockey championships in Edmonton Saturday.

Playing for Canada, Johnson scored a "Michigan" lacrosse-style goal in the first period against the Czech Republic, one of nine shots on goal in the contest.

Johnson's goal was awarded SportsCenter's top play of the day Sunday afternoon.

The "Michigan" goal is when a player picks up a puck on the blade of his hockey stick like a lacrosse player cradles the ball before tucking the puck around the net and placing it behind the goaltender for the score.

The technique is named after former Michigan hockey player Mike Legg, who first scored this lacrosse-style goal in a 1996 NCAA Tournament contest.

In nine games for the Blue Jackets last season, Johnson scored three assists in 112 minutes of total ice time.

In two seasons with Michigan hockey, Johnson scored 17 goals and 47 assists, recording a plus-41 plus/minus in 58 games played.
