Syrians mark anniversary of civil war by celebrating the ouster of Bashar Assad
Thousands of Syrians poured into the streets and public squares on Saturday to mark 14 years since the country’s civil war began, the first without Bashar Assad in power. The crowds waved Syrian flags and chanted in celebration of the rebel victory that ended the Assad family's five-decade rule in rallies in the capital, Damascus, the country’s largest city of Aleppo in the north, and Idlib, where the rebels launched their offensive in November. “15/3/2025 same date but we are now victorious,” read a poster carried by a man at Damascus’ Umayyad Square, as helicopter gunships dropped flowers on the gathering.

Brazilians sentenced in beating death of Congolese migrant
Two Brazilians have been sentenced to 19 and 23 years in prison respectively for the beating death of a young Congolese migrant in Rio de Janeiro, the court announced Saturday.Aleson Cristiano de Oliveira Fonseca was sentenced to 23 years and seven months, and Fabio Pirineus da Silva to 19 years and six months for the killing on January 24, 2022 of Moise Kabagambe, a court statement said.
