Walsh Jesuit football obliterates Rogers in Toledo
There’s not a lot of time for Walsh Jesuit football players to have their minds drift away on game day.
You can see it during any Friday night on the sidelines – the constant flow of football education that takes place in-game on the Walsh side.
If the offense is on the field, the defense is huddled together getting teachings. If the defense is playing, the offense is being mentored and looking at film clips.
That’s why the recent 70-12 non-league victory over Toledo Rogers did have immense value.

“The road Warriors came home healthy and it was great for our program to get everyone Friday night experience,” said Walsh head coach Nick Alexander.
“We have grown every week this season and it starts on the practice field,” he added. “We have done a lot of “best on best” to try to simulate our opponents and we have gotten better each week.”
Alexander was working on yet another long road trip plan – Friday at Columbus St. Francis DeSales. Final results weren’t available as of press time, but the Stallions (2-2) were expected to provide a larger challenge.
The Warrior staff used its roster against Rogers (0-4) and there were plenty of success stories.
Three quarterbacks had touchdowns for Walsh, which used a bevy of receivers as three different backs scored and even three different placekickers split the uprights for the Warriors (3-1).
Lost in all of the offense was the strong play of the defense.
Walsh had not one, but two safeties. Some plays got away as the athletic Rams had a 53-yard pass and a 49-yard scoring run, but the Warrior defense was opportunistic.
Junior Noah Brock was credited with the first safety while the second was by junior David Hawersaat.
Sophomore linebacker Declan Norton was the Warriors’ leading tackler with a career high 10 total stops, including six solo tackles and four assists.
The starters were also dominant for Walsh.
Senior quarterback Ryan Kerscher completed 11 of 17 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown – a 73-yarder to senior wide receiver Trey Bell.
Justin Bremner continued his excellence at running back as the senior had six carries for 130 yards. He scored on touchdown runs of 34 and 48 yards.
Running back Topher Salek had two rushes for only five yards, but the senior had a TD run, plus two receptions for 21 yards.
Junior quarterback Ruel Tomlinson was spectacular as he was 2-2 passing with one touchdown, plus added four rushes for 86 yards and one more score.
Even sophomore QB Keller Moten was dangerous as he had six carries for 73 yards and two rushing touchdowns!
“We had eight different guys have catches in the game,” said Alexander.
Senior Erik Polousky had three catches for 39 yards, senior Gavin Gubanyor added three catches for 41 yards, and junior Gavin Mayes also caught a TD pass.
In addition, sophomore back Jamir McCombs had a TD run for the Warriors.
Senior kicker Cooper Kirda booted a 22-yard field goal and was six for six on extra points while junior Ryan Demming made his only PAT attempt, and sophomore Jerry Rosati made both of his kicks.
The Walsh staff was also able to get in a plethora of linemen in the trenches some quality game experience in the victory.
After the clash against DeSales, it will be Hoban Week as Walsh will host the Knights (3-0) Sept. 23.
