Jayson Harmer voted North Jersey Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week
After four days of voting, Hawthorne senior distance runner Jayson Harmer has been selected as the North Jersey Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Harmer, whose school doesn't have cross-country, trained on his own in the fall and opened his season with indoor school records in both the 800 and 1,600 meters at the Ed Church Invitational at the Armory Track Center, winning both in North Jersey leading times.
Here were the other nominees:
Tyson Lowe
Fort Lee senior jumper
It didn't take Lowe long to break a 16-year-old school record in the long jump, as his second jump of the year at the season opening Spike Shoe Invitational at the Armory Track Center was 22 feet one inch. His jump leads all NJSIAA athletes so far this season.
Zack Madison
Northern Highlands junior jumper
Madison, a second team all-North Jersey wide receiver, didn't waste any time getting into a second sport at a high level, winning the high jump at both the Spike Shoe Invitational and Ed Church Invitational meets and jumping an indoor personal best to win the long jump at the latter event.
Connor Munson
Westwood senior multi event
Munson competed in only three events at the Coach Glynn Invitational at Ocean Breeze, comparative child's play for one of the nation's top pentathlete/decathletes. He set indoor personal bests in winning the 55 hurdles and pole vault, and added a third gold in winning the high jump.
Nathan Storz
Emerson senior hurdler/jumper
He's a little dinged up to start the season, but that didn't stop Storz from winning both the triple jump and 55 hurdles at the Paul Schwartz Invitational at Rockland Community College, the latter with an early season North Jersey-leading distance of 42-2 3/4
