Road Test: 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon

Yahoo Finance's Pras Subramanian drives the uber station wagon - the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon

Video Transcript

- me tell you, this car is not like most cars. It is a station wagon with an AMG hotted-up twin turbo V8 putting out more than 600 horsepower. So just imagine that, a station wagon putting out as much horsepower as, let's say a McLaren super-car.

So this car is pretty extreme, it's not for everybody. People in the auto-enthusiasts community love it, because it drives like a race car, but you can actually haul your kid's stuff in the back. Hey, that's great! But that comes at a cost. Worth of $100,000.

So, you know, my whole take on this car is the auto-enthusiast community loves this thing. I think it's the next best thing. It's an amazing-- why don't they make one of these cars? Well, you know, they're impractical. And they cost so much money. Who needs a race car that-- that's, you know, in kind of like sheep's clothing here, a station wagon?

You know? Some people do. They want to have fun and also have practicality in it for them. For those people with money, sure, this is a great car. It's going to sell. You know, at a low volume. It's probably going to command a premium, because there's maybe only so few of these cars out. It's a great car. MotorTrend called it its performance car of the year.

I'm driving it now. I've driven it pretty spirited, on some nice twisty roads and it's incredible for how big this car is. How much power it has and balance-- the chassis' incredible. It's great. But for me? It's kind of overkill.

But, hey-- it is an amazing, an amazing vehicle. And if you have the means and you need something that can allow you to take the family on vacation, but then also attack-- and I mean really attack-- some back roads, and put some supercars to shame? Go for it.
