Google calls on Larry Page, Sergey Brin to help with AI competition

Yahoo Finance Live anchors discuss reports that Google has tapped Larry Page and Sergey Brin to help with AI.

JARED BLIKRE: Google founders Larry Page, Sergey Brin, they reportedly had held meetings with Google's executives to strategize the future of AI and ChatGPT's threat to its $149 billion business. Page and Brin had not spent that much time at Google since they left their roles in 2019.

And, Brad, you know everybody here knows that I've become a recent fan of ChatGPT. May be obsessed. And I see this thing is so far beyond what a search engine does. Google needs to get on top of this and add this capability now because ChatGPT, if it simply adds search, it's going to be ahead of the game, I think.

BRAD SMITH: I mean, we've already seen the considerable investment that Microsoft intends to continue layering on to what they already not just knew about ChatGPT and what it could mean for its Bing search-- which, again, when's the last time you searched or originated a search on Bing? Microsoft hoping to change that here.

And I think for Google, they're saying and issuing these code reds internally to say we need to be able to catch up or at least make sure that we're keeping pace with this rate of innovation. And AI one of the big topics at--
