ZACK GUZMAN: Welcome back to "The Ticker." As President Trump prepares to take the stage at the Republican National Convention, a new poll is showing that Democratic nominee Joe Biden may not have gotten that big of a boost from his own convention. Here to chat that with us is Yahoo Finance's Jessica Smith. And Jessica, I guess it just strengthens the fact that these conventions don't do all that much.
JESSICA SMITH: Yeah, this new poll found that Vice President Biden leads President Trump among registered voters 47% to 40. This is a poll from Reuters. Biden did not get much of a convention boost there. And there's a couple reason why-- reasons why that might be. This convention was later in the year than it usually is. It was delayed because of the coronavirus. So as we get deeper into the election cycle, more people may have already made up their minds. Reuters notes that there are fewer under-- undecided voters this year than there were at this time in 2016. So again, people may have already made up their minds before tuning in to the Democratic National Convention.
Another poll out today from CNBC and Change Research found that concerns about coronavirus and-- have decreased, they've fallen a bit in swing states, and President Trump's approval rating has ticked higher in those swing states. So the poll surveyed likely voters in different states like Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin between Friday and Monday. It found that 66% of the respondents have serious concerns about the coronavirus. And that is down from 69% two weeks prior. The poll also found 48% of those respondents approve of the job President Trump is doing. That is up from 46% two weeks ago.
Still, Biden does have an edge in those swing states. The poll found a majority of voters believe Biden and the Democrats would do a better job handling the coronavirus than President Trump. And overall, it still looks like a very competitive race in those key states. Biden leads Trump by a 49 to 46 margin. Zack?
ZACK GUZMAN: And obviously, as we think back to 2016 and what we saw play out in that election, a lot of people a little bit hesitant to believe what the polls might be saying. But Jessica Smith, appreciate that update. We'll see what happens out of the RNC after President Trump speaks.
