Vero Beach police investigating U.S. 1 motorcycle crash that killed 62-year-old Texas man
VERO BEACH — A Texas man died after crashing his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid a collision with a car on U.S. 1, police said.
Vero Beach police are investigating the crash, which happened around 6:45 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 1 south of 36th Street and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.
Lt. Brian Kerensky said next week detectives will temporarily shut down the northbound U.S. 1 lane where the crash occurred to recreate the scene for forensic evidence.
He provided what he said was a preliminary assessment of the crash.

While attempting a southbound turn from BigShots’ parking lot, Kerensky said a green 2000 Honda Accord pulled out in front of the northbound 2007 Harley Davidson which was travelling in the outside lane of U.S. 1.
“The bike was laid down prior to the initial impact,” said Kerensky.
It struck the broad left side of the car, he said, hitting between the driver and rear passenger doors.
“There were no other secondary accidents, just the initial crash,” he said, clarifying that the motorcyclist was not struck by another vehicle.
The two juveniles inside the Honda refused medical treatment, said Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief David Rattray.
Kerensky did not give the ages of the juveniles in the Honda.
“We have not concluded the investigation,” Kerensky said. “It’s still ongoing at this point.”
The 62-year-old motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, and Kerensky said after an autopsy was done Friday police were waiting on results of blood screenings from toxicology reports.
The man, who’s name was not released, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
