United States men's national soccer team Concacaf World Cup qualifier vs. Costa Rica: Live stream and TV info, USMNT roster

Unless the U.S. men's national soccer team suffers a seemingly unimaginable defeat in Costa Rica on Wednesday night, it will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With its 5-1 rout of Panama on Sunday, the USMNT built a hefty goal differential (plus-13, compared to Costa Rica's plus-3) that boosted its World Cup hopes. Costa Rica — which sits three points behind the U.S. — will need to defeat the USMNT by six or more goals in order to leapfrog past the Americans in the Concacaf World Cup qualifying standings.

Historically speaking, the USMNT has a dismal record in Costa Rica, having never won a World Cup qualifier in the country. It suffered a 4-0 defeat in 2017 during the qualifying cycle for the 2018 World Cup, which the USMNT ultimately failed to qualify for.

The top three teams in Concacaf automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while the fourth-place team must compete in an inter-continental playoff. Canada already has clinched a World Cup berth — its first since 1986 — and can secure the top spot in the Concacaf World Cup qualifying standings against Panama on Wednesday (9:05 p.m. ET, on Paramount+). Mexico, which hosts El Salvador on Wednesday, also is in line to qualify for the World Cup for the eighth consecutive time.
