Here are the top 10 high school boys cross country times this season
As the temperatures begin to drop, the fall foliage starts to paint a breathtaking view and the days get shorter, that invariably means high school cross country times start to get faster.
While the top of the state leaderboard remains unchanged, there are a couple of changes this week in the middle of the pack.
One of the biggest meets of the season was this past Saturday when eight Iowa teams traveled north to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the annual Roy Griak Invitational at the Los Bolstad Cross Country Course.
Dowling won the boys crown with 153 points, led by Jackson Heidesch, who placed second overall in 15 minutes, 33.5 seconds.
Ford Washburn of Iowa City High finished a close third in 15:34.0.
Natneal Kifle of Sioux City North took 10th in 16:08.6.
While none of those times were season bests for the three Iowa runners, it does show how competitive Iowa runners are, both regionally and nationally.
In fact, Iowa has five runners — Heidesch, Washburn, Patrick Heffernan of Boyer Valley, Kifle and Jedidiah Osgood of Marion— in the top 50 fastest times nationally this year.
