Tony Vitello jokes about Tennessee football fans streaking if Vols beat Florida

Tony Vitello wasn't on the set of ESPN's College GameDay for long Saturday.

But the Tennessee baseball coach still got in a quip about how Vols fans could celebrate if UT beats Florida at Neyland Stadium.

“After the game, if we win, everybody could go streaking," Vitello joked.

Vitello joined the set in Knoxville for about three minutes with David Pollack and Jess Sims. Tennessee fans chanted his name before he was shown on the broadcast. Then he made the joke about streaking, calling to mind the 2003 movie Old School featuring Will Ferrell in which Ferrell's character goes streaking.

Vitello has made a Ferrell-centric joke on TV before. He referred to Vols outfielder Jordan Beck as "Mike Honcho" during UT's series-opening win at Vanderbilt on April 1 after Beck was called out for using a bat without an approved sticker.

"I don’t even know that Jordan Beck should be at the University of Tennessee," Vitello said sarcastically. "He forged his transcript. He is actually a 35-year-old man named Mike Honcho. He just shows up to practice every day and he is a good kid so we put him in the lineup.”

That reference stemmed from the 2006 comedy Talladega Nights with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Reilly’s character used the alias "Mike Honcho" during a photo shoot, which he confesses to Ferrell's character.

Vitello is entering his sixth year as the Vols baseball coach. He led UT to an SEC regular-season title and SEC Tournament title last season. The Vols hadn't won either since 1995.

Tennessee reached the College World Series in 2021, then followed it with a 57-win season and a lengthy No. 1 ranking during the 2022 season.
