Times Record News to move printing operation to Lubbock

After decades of operation, the Times Record News printing press will be shutting down in May with printing operations moved to Lubbock.

The Times Record News parent company, Gannett, announced the change this week.

The TRN printing press is set to cease operation in early May.

The end of printing operation in Wichita Falls is not expected to change the frequency or quality of delivery. Subscribers to the print edition will continue to receive home delivery on their current schedule, at the current times.

After the press shuts down, the TRN editorial department will continue to work from the Times Record News office in downtown Wichita Falls.

“Our dedication to providing journalism that impacts our community is not affected by where the paper prints. We will continue to report the news as it happens, answer the tough questions and provide meaningful content online and in print,” TRN Editor Claire Kowalick said.

The consolidation of print services comes amid similar moves throughout the newspaper industry.

Gannett merged with Gatehouse media three years ago. Since the merger, Gannett said the consolidation of some print services was necessary due to duplicated printing capacity.

“While Gannett and Times Record News are increasingly focused on the digital experience for our readers, we will continue to provide the print product that our customers have come to expect,” Kowalick said.

This week also saw the end of the Saturday print edition beginning March 19. There will be an E-Edition of the Saturday paper available for subscribers online and through the app. The E-Edition and digital news will continue to provide Times Record News content seven days a week with print editions six days a week.
