Three Pueblo Central High School seniors get $5,000 college scholarships

The Pueblo Central High School class of 1959 scholarship committee has awarded $5,000 scholarships to three seniors from the school who will be attending universities in Colorado in the fall.

The recipients of the scholarships are:

Kaitlyn Jesik, who plans to major in veterinary medicine at Colorado State University in Fort Collins;

Noah Wood, who will attend CSU in Fort Collins to study engineering;

Nicole Mendoza, who will study nursing starting in the fall at Trinidad State College, where she also has a softball scholarship.

Mendoza plans to transfer to Colorado State University Pueblo to complete her degree, the committee that awarded the scholarships said in a statement.

All three were chosen for the scholarships based on their grades, evaluations, and recommendations they received from peers, educators and school counselors, the statement said.

They were all active in extracurricular activities at school, made positive contributions to their communities, and "have at one time or another been employed while attending school," it said.
