Third tornado confirmed in Dickson County, power restoration update
A tornado that caused major damage in Cheatham County initially touched down on the edge of White Bluff in Dickson County before continuing east, according to emergency management officials.
A portion of the EF-2 tornado with 125 mph winds started in White Bluff and followed a path 400 yards wide and 10.5 miles long.
“In White Bluff, there were multiple power outages but minor structural damage,” according to a statement from the Dickson County Emergency Management Agency.
Kingston Springs, in Cheatham County, suffered major structural damage and one injury was reported, according to the local EMA.
Other tornadoes in Dickson County included an EF-2 that was 500 yards wide and was on the ground for around eight miles in Dickson, reaching speeds up to 135 mph. This storm caused damage to over 60 homes with eight of them being destroyed and resulting in two injuries. Almost a mile of power lines and poles were damaged. In Burns, an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds of 110 mph was 175 yards wide and 5.3 miles long causing damage to 10 homes and structures. No injuries were reported.
Dickson Electric System update
Dickson Electric System officials estimate 150 to 200 broken poles from this single weather event, describing it as one of the “worst” in years. According to DES officials, three main areas in the DES service territory suffered the most damage:
Murrell Road in Dickson
-More than 25 broken poles and destruction to the south along Murrell Road.
Includes East Piney and Mt. Sinai Roads, among others, 400 customers were originally out, down to under 100 customers as of Wednesday morning.
-Crews have been working to change out poles for days, and we have four crews including engineers and contractors working along Murrell Road today.
Industrial Park in Dickson/Sanker Road
Included a number of large industrial customers in addition to residents in the area, over 500 customers originally affected.
More than 30 poles brought down in the Industrial Park and Sanker Road areas combined
Crews were able to restore power to a portion of the customers affected Sunday night and completed the final pole change outs by 3 p.m. on Monday.
Highway 70 East in South Cheatham County
Hardest hit area with widespread devastation to homes, businesses, and our electrical infrastructure.
Approximately 45 broken poles along Highway 70, from White Bluff to Pegram.
Initially lost power to over 3,500 customers in the area; now less than 300 out.
Two TVA transmission towers were brought down by the storm.
We have seven crews working there at various spots along Highway 70.
Elizabeth Kuhns, a spokesperson for the DES, said “we want to recognize and thank our incredible employees who are working tirelessly to get the lights on and serve our customers around the clock.”
Utilities that have helped in restoring power include CDE Lightband, Lawrenceburg Utilities, and Tullahoma Utilities as well as Davis H. Elliot and Asplundh crews.
