US brokers release of three Americans imprisoned in China, Politico reports
The United States has brokered the release of three Americans in a deal with China that includes the exchange of unidentified Chinese citizens held in the U.S., Politico said on Wednesday citing an unnamed U.S. administration official. Politico, which cited sensitive diplomatic negotiations that had yet to be announced, said the United States had been trying for years to secure the release of the three - David Swidan, Ken Li and John Leung.

US economy grows at 2.8% pace in third quarter on consumer spending, unchanged from first estimate
The American economy expanded at a healthy 2.8% annual pace from July through September on strong consumer spending and a surge in exports, the government said Wednesday, leaving unchanged its initial estimate of third-quarter growth. The Commerce Department reported that growth in U.S. gross domestic product — the economy's output of goods and services — slowed from the April-July rate of 3%. Consumer spending, which accounts for about 70% of U.S. economic activity, accelerated to a 3.5%% annual pace last quarter, up from 2.8% in the April-June period and fasted growth since the first quarter of 2023.

Kosovo to build ammunition factory, drone lab to support defence industry
Kosovo plans to build its first state-owned ammunition factory and drone design lab, to prop up the country's defence industry, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Wednesday at a cabinet session. Kurti revealed plans to form an inter-ministerial commission to oversee development of the facility and lab and emphasized the need for a self-sustaining defence industry to support a big ramp-up in weapons and arms for the military due to growing tensions with Serbia. Kurti has repeatedly said his country should be ready to face any threat from neighbouring Serbia, which still considers Kosovo part of its territory.
