Texas Police Athletic Federation Games expected to bring thousands to El Paso in June 2023
The Texas Police Athletic Federation Games will come to El Paso in June 2023 and bring with it between $5 million and $7 million in economic impact, El Paso Sports Commission stated.
The games were announced Friday at the County Coliseum. The event is expected to bring 1,000 to 1,200 participants from June 11-17, 2023.
"I hope we realize how exciting it is to have these events," El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said. "This is an opportunity that we have to make things happen in El Paso."
There will be more than 30 events at the games, including archery, basketball, bass tournament, biathlon, bodybuilding, bowling and CrossFit.
Participants will include law enforcement, active or retired. Also invited to compete are members of fire departments, Border Patrol, Homeland Security and active or retired military, a press release stated.
Ryan Urrutia, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Commander, said this event is an opportunity for law enforcement to showcase their skills outside of their careers.
"We're not just police officers, we do other things," Urrutia said. "And that way the public can come and see that."
Participants from Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mexico can register for the event. Once law enforcement members register, the remaining spots will be for the general public.
Beau Bagley, the Vice President of the El Paso Sports Commission, said venues will be determined in December or January. The event will take place at different locations throughout the County.
The 2022 games will take place in June in San Angelo.
