Teen suspect charged with attempted murder in Brockton school stabbing
BROCKTON – The teen suspect who allegedly stabbed a fellow student at the Brockton Therapeutic Day School at Huntington on Thursday morning faces several charges, Brockton police said.
Brockton police spokesperson Darren Duarte said the 16-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.
He was "taken into custody" shortly after the stabbing, Duarte said Thursday night.
Officials said at a press conference Thursday afternoon it was unknown how the suspect snuck a knife past the school's metal detectors. Mayor Robert Sullivan said every metal detector in the school district will be checked for sensitivity to ensure schools are safe.

What happened?
About 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Brockton police arrived at the Brockton Therapeutic Day School, a small school of 40 students who have disabilities. Just minutes earlier, Superintendent Mike Thomas said a school staff member had witnessed the stabbing, which happened inside the school, between classes, and immediately notified the nurse via walkie-talkie.
EMTs transported the victim by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center and the suspect was taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth to be evaluated.

Both the suspect and the victim are students at the school, but officials are unclear on whether the two knew each other personally prior to the stabbing. The investigation is ongoing.
Two days prior to the stabbing, another student at the school, 14-year-old Nehemiah Cepeda was killed at his home, allegedly by his mother's boyfriend. An investigation by police and Plymouth County District Attorney's office is ongoing.
