The staffing agency that placed him at Woodbury High School said Wednesday that he also no longer works for them. The man was serving as a substitute English teacher on Monday when he told students in four separate 10th and 12th grade classes that they might want to hear about his life as a police officer, school officials said in a letter to students, families and staff.

State Dept affirms Israel's right to target Hezbollah in Lebanon, urges civilian protection
Israel has a right to target Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah even as it may be hiding in civilian buildings in Lebanon, but should do so in a way that protects civilians, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Wednesday. Asked at a regular press briefing about an Israeli airstrike that destroyed the municipal headquarters in the southern Lebanon town of Nabatieh that killed 16 people including the mayor, Miller said he could not comment on the specific strike, but "we don't want to see civilian buildings destroyed."

Italy expands its ban on surrogacy to overseas as critics say it targets same-sex couples
Italy on Wednesday criminalized citizens who go abroad to have children through surrogacy, a measure slammed by opponents as “medieval" and discriminatory to same-sex couples. The measure extending a surrogacy ban in place since 2004 was promoted by Premier Giorgia Meloni's far-right Brothers of Italy party and its conservative coalition partner, the League, asserting that it protects women’s dignity. The Senate after a seven-hour debate passed the bill 84-58, the final step in the process after the Lower House's approval last year.

Al-Dalu and his mother were sleeping in the tent along with his father and three siblings when the strike hit at around 1:30 a.m. on Monday.

A man accused of making a threat that sparked a temporary shift in some western North Carolina disaster recovery operations said he believed social media reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency was refusing to help people, but realized that wasn't the case when he arrived in hard-hit Lake Lure. During a phone interview with WGHP-TV, William Parsons, of Bostic, read aloud a social media post he made that said “We the people” were looking for volunteers on Saturday to “overtake the FEMA site in Lake Lure and send the products up the mountains.” Parsons explained that he believed FEMA was withholding supplies and that his post was a call for action, not violence.

Being a teacher can be a very difficult and overwhelming job. Between the early mornings lesson-planning and the late nights grading, some days, teachers just need a laugh.

Let's face it — whether they know it or not, kids can be freaking hilarious. Since teachers get to be around so many unique kids of all ages, there's no doubt they've heard and seen some truly comedic things.

Maybe you were reading a book about cars to your preschool class. When you went, "Toot, toot!" to mimic the sound of a horn, one of your students loudly proclaimed, "I toot in my pants all the time!"

Perhaps you were grading tests, and one student didn't know the answer to one of the questions, so they wrote out all of the lyrics to "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley on their paper instead.

Or maybe it was spirit week and the quiet kid from your third period class showed up to school dressed as Guy Fieri — frosted tips, flaming shirt, goatee, and all!
