STUARTS DRAFT — After coaching boys high school basketball at both the public and private levels, and making stops as an assistant for men's college basketball, Chad Seibert is taking on a new challenge.

The former Mary Baldwin and Bridgewater assistant will be the new girls basketball coach at Stuarts Draft. He was introduced to the team last week. It will be his first time coaching girls on the high school level, although he did coach a girls AAU team.

Seibert's last head coaching job in high school was for Eastern Mennonite. He was also the head coach of the Turner Ashby boys team until 2015, an assistant at Eastern Mennonite University, an assistant at Mary Baldwin and, this past winter, an assistant at Bridgewater.

As a full-time insurance agent, Seibert said being an assistant coach was the perfect fit. He got to feed his competitive side, but wasn't in complete charge of a program.

But he did miss being a head coach and he has two daughters who will be in high school within the next couple of years. He had thought if something opened up in the Augusta County area he'd be interested. Otherwise, he'd go back to Bridgewater.

When the opportunity to coach at Stuarts Draft came open it seemed like a good move for him.

"All the ingredients you need for success from a community, from an administration was there," he said. "The JV team was very successful last year. There's some good young talent coming up. They're going to have a group of seniors next year that's going to give us a chance to be competitive right away. I felt like it just checked so many boxes for us that it was kind of a no-brainer."

In three years at Eastern Mennonite High School, Seibert led the team to 52 wins and three consecutive Virginia Independent School Athletic Association state semifinal appearances. The team finished as state runner-up in 2019 and 2020.

Returning to public schools is exciting for Seibert, who is looking forward to playing against schools only minutes away as opposed to hours.

"What I really, really desperately missed in my time at Eastern Mennonite was the public school community rivalry stuff," Seibert said. "Everybody at the private school level was pretty much two hours away."
