Storck dominates her four years for Tigers hoops
Life in the Raccoon River Conference gave the Tigers more fits this season as ADM finished seventh in the nine-team league. Now with the season wrapped, the Tigers are at crossroads, looking to see which direction they’ll go next year.
The Storck Delivers
Nicole Storck walks away with some of the greatest achievements any Tiger has brought ADM. Being a four-year starter is a big accomplishment in itself, but to be such a consistent contributor is another deal.
After four years in Adel, the Tigers’ leader this season finished her career with 1,094 points, 665 rebounds, and 58 blocks. That makes her just one of two players in the Raccoon River Conference to rank among the top five in all three categories over the past four seasons (Bondurant-Farrar’s Katelyn Lappe is the other). Storck ranked second in both scoring and rebounds and fifth in blocks.
Any time Storck stepped on the hardwood, the odds were in her favor to be the best out there, chasing down free balls and contested shots like few others have in an ADM jersey.
Storck finished her senior campaign leading the RRC with 9.7 rebounds per game and was second in scoring at 15.5 points on average. Add 2.5 steals in fourth place for good measure.
After going through the first seven games this season without a double-double, Storck hauled in 10 over the last 16 games of the season to climb the leaderboards. She had seven as a junior and two as a sophomore.
As a team leader that grew each year on and off the court, Storck leaves behind some big shoes to fill. But if the family name means anything, the Tigers could have a couple more seasons worth of great production.
Kelli Storck was the team’s second-leading scorer and rebounder. As a sophomore, she held an average of 5.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. By comparison, Nicole averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds her sophomore year as the team leader, doubling her first-year production once she took the leading role in the offense — like Kelli may be primed for in the next couple of seasons.
Moving Forward
This marked the second straight year the Tigers finished with an 11-13 finish. The 2019-20 season was the last season ADM had a winning record (15-6), and after losing a generational talent (like the team will lose this season with Nicole Storck), the Tigers’ winning percentage was sliced in half.
Now head coach Jacob Cleveland’s crew moves on, searching to stop the pattern from progressing.
In addition to losing Storck, the Tigers lose three more seniors that saw action in 20 or more games. At the top of those role players, Addison Banse made 4.0 points per game as one of the team’s three-point specialists. She led the Tigers with 74 attempts this year, making 31 percent of her tries, also the team’s high.
Cameran Smith may then walk into her senior season as the team’s helpline on the perimeter, having dialed up 70 shots downtown, connecting on 23 percent of them. A bit of progression in her shot would undoubtedly make the Tigers a greater threat and improve her third-leading 4.6 points per game.
With Ballard and conference champion North Polk — both state qualifiers this season — losing a majority of their production from senior-dominated lineups, a door may open up for the Tigers to start moving back up the leaderboard.
