Stew Leonard's will open a second North Jersey supermarket. Here's what we know

CLIFTON —Stew Leonard's, dubbed the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores," will open a supermarket in the Styertowne Shopping Center at Bloomfield Avenue and Allwood Road sometime in 2024.

The plan also calls for the new supermarket to integrate the current Stew Leonard's Wine & Spirits store now located at Clifton's Promenade Shops on Route 3.

The current liquor store, owned and operated by members of the Leonard family, is an independently operated and licensed store, and will, when operational, become part of the growing regional chain of supermarkets.

“My family and I just made a deal to have a new Stew Leonard’s take over the Seasons market in Clifton, " Stew Leonard, Jr., president & CEO said on Tuesday. "We are excited because we’ll be able to sell both food and wine in the store as we plan to move Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits of Clifton into the new location."

Seasons, a large kosher supermarket chain with stores in New York and New Jersey announced in an April 29 press release that it lost its lease in the Styertowne Shopping Center. Seasons opened the Clifton site in 2016 and has plans to open other stores including a full-sized supermarket in Toms River next year.

George Jacobs, owner of Styertowne, said the change has been in the works for about a year and should be a great anchor for the storied shopping center that originally opened in 1952.

"We are excited," Jacobs said, "We are delighted to welcome Stew to Styertowne."

Seasons, he said, is expected to vacate the mall sometime in June.

When completed, the store will be the second Stew Leonard's in New Jersey and the second to combine wine and groceries stores. The first market opened in Paramus in 2019.

Clifton's store will be the eighth Stew Leonard's supermarket, all located in the Northeast.

"We will start construction this summer and will open in 2024," Leonard said. " We are still in the process of designing the store and hope to share more details soon.”
