Stars of the Day: Stang hockey, boys basketball teams collect wins on Tuesday
DARTMOUTH — Make it five straight for the Bishop Stang hockey team.
The Spartans remain unbeaten on the season on Tuesday, beating Dartmouth 3-1 in the opening round of the Dartmouth Christmas holiday tournament at Hetland Memorial Skating Rink at Hetland Memorial Skating Rink.
Quinn Pine, Justin Gouveia and Jack Jedrey each scored goals for Stang (5-0). Gouveia chipped in with a pair of assists and Seamus Marshall also added an assist.
Brayden Bennett had 21 saves in net for the victory.
With the victory, the Spartans have a 15-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season (14-0-1). The shots on net was even at 22 apiece.
Stang takes on Foxboro for the championship on Thursday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Bishop Stang 64, Cristo Rey Boston 29
The Spartans even their record at 2-2 after beating Cristo Rey Boston at home.
Ethan Clark led the way for Stang with a game-high 15 points. Frank Vollaro added 10 points in the win.
Defense paved the way for the Spartans as they collected 21 steals, including eight from brothers Jackson and Ben Tingley-Prince.
Seekonk 54, Joseph Case 44
The Cardinals dropped a home game against league opponent Seekonk.
Landon Cayton had a team-high 15 points for Case.
Hayden Cayton finished with 12 points.
Holbrook 70, Diman 63
The Bengals lost a hard fought game against Holbrook.
Jacob Furtado led the way for Diman with a team-high 26 points. Teammate Hunter Quental chipped in with eight points.
The Bengals host Bourne on Thursday.
