Space Coast anglers can expect a warm weekend ahead, and the fishing will also be red hot
A forecast for light winds will enable Space Coast bluewater anglers to pursue their favorite targets. Dolphin have been moving north along the currents of the Gulf Stream, along with blackfin tuna, wahoo and skipjack tuna.
Along the reefs, kingfish and snapper are being caught. Grouper season does not open until May 1.
Inshore, snook and tarpon can be caught around the inlets on live bait.

Mosquito Lagoon
Sight cast the shallows along the shorelines where redfish are roaming rooting in the mud for crustaceans and small bait fish. Cast a live shrimp, artificial shrimp or 1/4-ounce gold spoon to get bites. Black drum will be in coves around some of the islands like Cucumber Island. Cast dead shrimp or live shrimp on a popping cork.
Offshore
There have been mahi mahi caught in 100-250 feet of water. Trolling is one of the best ways to find the fish. Also, look for signs of activity such as diving birds, floating objects or sargassum seaweed and troll along the current edges where these will be floating. Blackfin tuna, skipjack tuna and wahoo are also being hooked in the same zone. Kingfish have been closer to the beach in bait schools in 20 to 40 feet of water. Grouper season opens May 1.
Surf
Surf casters are finding bites from whiting along Brevard County beach accesses. Cast pieces of shrimp or Fishbites to the sand bar. Other catches will include bonnethead sharks, stingrays, bluefish and Spanish mackerel, however, most of the schools of mackerel and blues have moved north by now. A few pompano can be caught, but don't expect multiple limits.
Sebastian Inlet
Snook and redfish are staged on the rocky reef at the east end of the north jetty. There is a lot of fishing pressure there from boats and jetty anglers so use courtesy. Live croakers, pinfish, mullet or shrimp will get bites. Sheepshead, snapper and flounder can be caught from the catwalks under the bridge. Trout have been caught on the flats at Long Point and Black Point.
Indian River Lagoon
Speckled trout fishing has been good in many areas of the lagoon system. Look for depths of about 2-4 feet, and if there is any seagrass, that's a huge bonus, but it's hard to find. Mangroves are good spots to cast near for trout, too. Topwater plugs fished at daybreak will get a few bites from these ambush predators. After the sun comes up, cast jigs and shrimp on popping corks.
Freshwater
Bass fishing will be best along the shorelines of lakes, ponds and canals with the full moon the next couple of days. Fish are spawning and are on the beds. Speckled perch and bluegill can also be caught. Use minnows for the specks and crickets for the 'gills.
