Soddies on first three-game winning streak of the season

The Amarillo Sod Poodles used a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a trio of home runs, to power past the San Antonio Mission 8-5 on Thursday at HODGETOWN Stadium.

With the victory, the Soddies (7-5) are in the midst of their first three-game winning streak of the season by defeating the Mission (2-10).

Trailing 5-4 after four complete, Dominic Canzone knotted things up with a solo home run over the centerfield wall before Andy Yarzy hit a two-run and Blaze Alexander notched a solo homer to provide Amarillo with an 8-5 advantage they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Eduardo Diaz drove in three runs to lead the Sod Poodles. Canzone and Yerzey finished with two each and combined to hit 2-for-7.

The two squads will meet up at 7:05 p.m. Friday with the Soddies having a chance to clinch the series.
