Snow from storm causes challenges for firefighters battling 3-alarm blaze at vacant 1700s Boylston home
BOYLSTON — A three-alarm fire at a vacant multiunit home on Central Street had firefighters battling a blaze for hours Sunday.
No injuries were reported, Boylston Fire Chief Joseph Flanagan said.
The house, 29-31 Central St., was allegedly full of antiques, which were destroyed along with the home. The structure was razed Monday morning.
Flanagan said the cause of fire was electrical in nature — likely a baseboard heater.
Several towns assisted with mutual aid including West Boylston, Shrewsbury, Berlin, Clinton, Lancaster, Northborough, Westborough, Holden and Sterling.
The fire was fully involved by the time help arrived — which meant that firefighters weren't able to get inside and fought it from the outside.
Firefighters were putting the blaze out into the evening. Piles of snow in the aftermath of the storm, with live electrical wires down in the middle of road, made the task more difficult.
The home dates back to the 1700s and according to owner John Decrow, it was once scouted for the TV show "American Pickers."
