Selena Gomez's bedroom proves that nostalgic decor is making a comeback for 2023, say trend forecasters

Selena Gomez is no stranger to setting headlines – not least after becoming the first woman to surpass 400 million followers on Instagram earlier this month. The actress-turned-singer is as capable of making waves in the fashion industry as she is in Hollywood – but a look inside her Encino home proves she has a talent for interior design, too.

The property in question is one of the world's best homes, nestled in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles – and has served as Selena's base since early 2020.

Unsurprisingly, the estate (previously home to singer Tom Petty) offers much to be admired – from the massage room and wine cellar to the curved pool in the backyard. However, it is Selena's maximalist wallpaper that has caused the most excitement amongst designers and trend forecasters alike.

In her post above, Selena is perched on a burgundy chair, playing her guitar in what appears to be her music room (there is a large grand piano behind the singer, after all). Her pair of red velvet seats and circular rug and something to note – but her rose-printed, deep-green wallpaper creates the ultimate statement in the space.

When seen in a space like Selena's, it's easy to see why interior design trend forecasters expect prints such as this to increase in popularity this 2023. Most prominently,  1stDibs’ latest Interior Design Trend Survey predicts a rise in 1980s-inspired chintz  – with 28% of their top designers forecasting a chintz comeback over any feature in the past seven decades.

This rose print is not, however, the only part of Selena's wallpaper in vogue amongst those in the know. The deep forest green backdrop is equally sought-after after emerald was voted the most popular color (enjoying 23% of votes) for the year ahead. This deeper green gained a narrow lead over sage – coming in at 22%
