Tayport Taxis, a Scottish taxi operator that primarily works the North Fife area, has recently deployed its first electric vehicle to serve its customers—a fully electric MG ZS electric vehicle (EV). Supplied by Mackie Motors, a dealership in Brechin, Scotland, the EVs will be ferrying passengers in and around the village and neighboring Dundee area. Tayport Taxis selected MG’s compact SUV for its affordability and low running costs. "This is the first electric vehicle that we have gone with, and I hope to run with more in the future.” explained David Bayne of Tayport Taxis.
"I went electric for a number of reasons. Cost being the first - the cost of diesel and petrol is only getting higher and there are a lot of incentives for going electric from the Government, including the OLEV Plug-In Vehicle Grant and the Scottish Government's interest-free Electric Vehicle Loan. Charging Stations are really easy to find, and there are websites available which not only show you where the charging stations are, but also if they are in use at the time," Bayne added. Considered as the most technologically-advanced MG ever produced, the ZS EV is equipped with three tiers of regenerative braking, which extends the compact SUV’s driving range while improving the braking efficiency and energy conservation. The new MG ZS EV boasts three driving modes—Eco, Normal and Sport—allowing the car to fully adapt to your everyday driving needs. In addition, the car also has three steering modes—Urban, Normal and Dynamic—for a nimble and adaptive driving experience. The car also features rapid charging capability, and can charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes from a 50kW charging point. Charging the new MG ZS EV is made even simpler by its CCS and Type 2 ports, mounted within the front grille for easy access from either side of the car "I decided on the MG ZS EV because it’s a beautiful vehicle and nice to drive too,” Bayne added. “The team at Mackie Motors were really good and looked after me right the way through. And of course there’s the price - it’s one of the best priced electric vehicles on the road.”
“Sales have been driven by the growing consumer and business appetite for electric vehicles and the real affordability of ZS EV when compared to other plug-in cars on the market is exceptional,” explained Kevin Mackie, managing director of Mackie Motors, adding that the company had seen strong demand for the MG ZS EV since its launch last summer. The MG ZS recently debuted in the Philippines with three variants: Style MT, Style AT, and Alpha AT. All variants are equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that comes a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Price range for the MG ZS at launch starts at PHP 818,888 and tops off at PHP 998,888. Unfortunately, we don’t have the EV version just yet. But we are still hopeful.
