San Francisco 49ers' Brock Purdy among finalists for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Brock Purdy's standout rookie season with the San Francisco 49ers could end with a major award: NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The NFL announced the finalists for its awards on Wednesday and the former Arizona high school standout is among the three finalists for the award recognizing the top first-year player on offense.
The other finalists are Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III and New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Purdy being a finalist for the award might be controversial to some — he started just five regular-season games after all — but the quarterback went 5-0 in those starts to help the 49ers roll into the NFL postseason.

He was the No. 262 pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the last person selected, but became the 49ers' starter after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Purdy threw for 1,098 yards and 11 touchdowns in his five regular season starts, also running for a touchdown.
He completed 68.5% of his pass attempts.
Wilson had 83 catches for 1,103 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the season.
Walker III had 1,050 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

The NFL will announce the winner of the award on Feb. 9, when it also announces the winners of its other awards for the season.
Of course Purdy still has his sights set on earning some other hardware at the end of the season.
His team is one win away from a Super Bowl appearance and two wins away from a Super Bowl trophy. He isn't out of the running to end his rookie campaign with a Super Bowl MVP trophy, either.
