Roundup: Butler, Bailey set Heath track records
Huntyr Butler and Kennedi Bailey each broke Heath track school records Saturday during Bloom-Carroll's Carl Fell Invitational.
Butler reset the mark in the 110 hurdles (14.46) and also won the high jump (6 feet). Bailey eclipsed her previous best in the shot put (44-5), and she also won the discus (106-8).
Jay Figgins broke the Utica record, winning the 1,600 (4:27.18). He also won the 400 (50.80) and 800 (2:03.33).
Butler joined Daylen McIntyre, Riley Gould and Brayden Bayles on Heath's runner-up 400 relay (44.73), and Utica's Silas Buckenberger in the 1,600 (4:47.69) and Dylan Cooperider discus (117-7) each were runner-up.
Joining Bailey as a winner in the girls meet was Johnstown's Reece Savage in the 1,600 (5:46.98), and Heath's Allie Dunlap was runner-up in the pole vault (10-6).
Evans wins pair
Isabel Evans swept the 100 hurdles (15.61) and 300 hurdles (47.61) to lead Northridge during Hamilton Township's Kallner Invitational.
Colette Patti, Mia Siegenthaler, Stephanie Gilmore and Darla Dorman also won the 800 relay (1:50.45) for the Vikings. Taking runner-up were Albree Ashbrook in the 1,600 (5:51.74) and 3,200 (13:44.46), Patti 200 (27.12) and Patti, Evans, Siegenthaler and Kennedy Chalfant 400 relay (52.58).
Valley takes title
Reagan Campbell won the 100 (12.58), 200 (25.64) and 400 (1:00.44), leading Licking Valley to the team championship during New Philadelphia's Leo Gundy Invitational.
The Panthers totaled 98.5 points, edging runner-up Rittman's 97.5 and the host Quakers' 97.
Reese Osborn won the shot put (34-feet-3.5) and took runner-up in the discus (102-1). Tatum Gregory (9-3) and Ally Conaway (8-6) took the top two spots in the pole vault, and Joesy Kramer took runner-up in the 100 hurdles (17.07).
In the boys meet, Valley's Rylan Felumlee won the 800 (2:00.29), took runner-up in the 1,600 (4:30.31) and also joined Dillan Stewart, Joey Dietrich and Marshall Carr on the runner-up 1,600 relay (3:45.57).
SOFTBALL
Johnstown sweeps
Johnstown beat host Pleasant 18-1 and 16-5.
Addie Triplett hit two home runs and had six RBI in the 18-1 victory, and Dakota Staffan also homered, totaling three hits, three runs scored and four RBI. Macy Walters was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Brooklynne Siegal and Makayla Fain had two hits apiece, combining for three runs scored and four RBI.
Ava Peterman hit a two-run home run in the 16-5 victory. Staffan was 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Peyton Mischel added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Walters two hits and four RBI for the Johnnies (10-2).
Heights wins twice
Licking Heights beat visiting Westland 27-0 and 17-1.
Lydia Rauch totaled four hits and seven RBI, Alissa West three hits, three runs scored and four RBI and Amber Ramey and Kayla Siddell four runs scored apiece in the 27-0 win. Siddell struck out 13 in a five-inning no-hitter.
West was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Evie Hays added a double, two runs scored and four RBI and Avery Fuller a hit, two runs scored and two RBI for the Hornets (6-5) in the 17-1 win. Rauch struck out 10.
Watkins splits
No. 1 Watkins Memorial beat Strongsville 11-1 before falling 1-0 to host Triway, ranked No. 2 in Division II.
Kiera Mayer and Kendall Tellings each homered against Strongsville. Hannah Hunt added three hits, three runs scored and an RBI, Jordyn Wycuff two hits and three RBI and Christina Kilkenny two hits and a run scored for the Warriors (15-1).
Carsyn Cassady struck out 10 and allowed five hits against Triway. Hunt and Wycuff each singled.
Heath splits
Kyndall Spicer’s seventh-inning home run gave Heath a 9-8 victory at North Union. The Bulldogs (9-3) also lost 10-0 to Teays Valley.
Spicer had two hits and three runs scored, Katlyn Jardine two hits, two runs scored and two RBI and Renae Cunningham a home run in the win.
Jardine doubled in the loss.
Valley edged by Sheridan
Licking Valley dropped a doubleheader 3-2 and 14-12 to visiting Sheridan.
Brooklyn Ashbaugh tripled, scored a run and drove in one, and Madison Drake had a hit and an RBI for the Panthers (4-6) in the 3-2 loss. Rylee Pitt struck out four in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Taylor Drake totaled three hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Madison Drake three hits and three runs scored for the Panthers in the 14-12 loss. Brianna Sawyers added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Pitt two hits, a run scored and three RBI.
Lakewood falls
Lakewood was edged 8-7 by host Mount Vernon and fell 13-0 to North Ridgeville.
Emma McLean doubled twice with three runs scored and an RBI for the Lancers (9-6) against the Yellow Jackets. Olivia Alward added two hits, a run scored and two RBI and Audrey Thomas also doubled twice and scored twice.
Thomas and Autumn Blankenship each singled in the 13-0 loss.
GCA wins pair
Granville Christian picked up a pair of home wins in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.
Ellie Flowers and Bri Hubbard had three hits apiece, combining for six runs and six RBI with Flowers hitting a pair of triples in a 19-2 victory against Tree of Life. Ella Rhoads added a triple, four runs scored and two RBI and also struck out three for the Lions (3-1, 3-1).
Gaby Baer had three hits, including a double and a triple, three runs scored and an RBI, Bella Baer a double and a triple and a run scored and Rhoads two doubles, a run scored and an RBI in an 8-7 victory against Delaware Christian. Flowers struck out six.
BASEBALL
NC beats Watterson
Bryan McAnally had two hits and three RBI, leading Newark Catholic to a 9-5 victory against Bishop Watterson at Beavers Field.
Mason Hackett added two hits, a run scored and an RBI, Shae Mummey a two-run single, Grant Moore an RBI triple and Mikey Hess an RBI for the Green Wave (9-2), who have won seven consecutive games.
Johnstown blanks Northridge
Nash Andrix struck out six in four one-hit innings, pitching Johnstown to an 11-0 victory at Northridge in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.
Justin LaRochelle totaled a hit, two runs scored and two RBI for the Johnnies (5-3-1, 4-3) out of the leadoff spot. Garrett Grinstead added two hits, a run scored and an RBI, Gavin Warden a hit, a run scored and three RBI and Jacob Myers two hits and two RBI.
Quentin Felhofer singled for the Vikings (0-8, 0-6).
Valley wins at home
Colby Conn struck out eight in six two-hit innings, pitching Licking Valley to a 2-1 victory against visiting Fredericktown.
Wyatt Binckley threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning get the save for the Panthers (6-3). Theo Walsh doubled, Aidan Harrold singled and Trent Clark and Brenden Moore each scored a run.
Heath splits
Heath split a doubleheader with visiting John Glenn, winning 10-5 and losing 12-9.
Conner Toomey was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs (5-4-1) in the win, and Jacob Bunn added two hits, a run scored and three RBI and Hayden Woodward and Cooper Bradley two hits and two runs scored apiece. Kaden Green and Connor Corbett combined for four strikeouts in a seven-hitter.
Woodward homered in the loss. Bradley totaled two hits and two RBI, Paul Gould two hits and an RBI and Bunn, Carlos Chaney and Tannar Patterson each a hit and two runs scored.
Lakewood falls at home
Lakewood dropped a doubleheader, 6-2 and 18-4, to visiting Tri-Valley.
Noah Blade and Luke Pierce allowed one run apiece in a combined 5 1/3 innings in the 6-2 loss. Carter Flowers had two hits and a run scored, Trey Smith a hit and a run scored and William Marrero a hit and an RBI for the Lancers (2-9).
Cayden McDonald had a hit, a run scored and an RBI in the 18-4 loss and Marrero a hit and an RBI.
Heights drops doubleheader
Licking Heights fell 4-2 and 8-6 to host Sheridan.
Jaden Griffin had two hits and Ben Pennington a hit and a run scored for the Hornets (2-7) in the 4-2 loss. Tyler Von Bargen struck out four and allowed no earned runs in four innings.
Jake Lopinto and Ethan Francis each homered in the 8-6 loss, combining for three runs scored and three RBI. Jonah Hare added two hits and two runs scored, and Cody Czuckowitz allowed three earned runs and struck out three in five innings.
Newark drops home game
A six-run fifth inning broke a scoreless tie and sent visiting Hilliard Darby to a 7-0 victory against Newark.
Max Durbin, Owen Poole and Cam Eskins singled for the Wildcats (8-3).
Utica splits
Utica beat Tree of Life 15-5 at Don Edwards Park after earlier falling 10-6 at Coshocton.
Aidyn Burgess totaled two hits, including a double, two runs scored and two RBI, Chase Bennett a hit, two runs scored and three RBI, Ryan Bigler two hits and a run scored and Roman Gamble and Connor Whisner a hit, two runs scored and an RBI apiece in the win for Utica (7-7). Connor Staugh allowed one earned run and struck out five in 4 1/3 innings.
Jordan Hartman had three hits and two RBI, Bigler two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Hayden Piper two hits and a run scored in the loss.
Liberty falls
Parker Griffin doubled twice, adding a run scored and an RBI for Liberty Christian in a 15-4 loss at Grove City Christian.
Caleb Windle and Devon Fye had a hit and an RBI apiece and Joel Mollohan a hit and a run scored for the Eagles (1-5).
BOYS TENNIS
Watkins teams win two titles
Watkins Memorial won a pair of championships during the Reynoldsburg Doubles Tournament.
Josh Hare and Liam Grennan won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, over a Big Walnut duo and Zach Clouse and Elijah Hargrow at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, also over a Big Walnut duo. Michael Hare and Kevin Walter took runner-up at No. 3 doubles.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Granville edged
Granville dropped a pair of matches 11-10 to Dublin Scioto and 16-13 to St. Joseph Academy.
Amelia Sarap totaled 10 goals in the two matches, and Kyra Studer had a hat trick in each loss. Bella Rockwell also had a hat trick in the 16-13 loss, and Zoe Gravitt scored in each match.
Grace Lilly made a combined 17 saves for the Blue Aces (3-7).
