Southbound traffic on Highway 101 heading into Thousand Oaks was slowed Friday afternoon by rocks spilled on the route.

California Highway Patrol officials said they had closed the slow lane at Moorpark Road due to baseball-size rocks that had been spilled by a big rig around 1:50 p.m. The spill stretched about 1,000 feet.

Around 2:40 p.m., the CHP sent a tweet warning motorists of the delay.

Southbound traffic backed up past Wendy Drive in Newbury Park for much of the afternoon.

The big rig hauling the rocks had pulled over on the right side of the freeway, the agency reported.

California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, crews would clean up, CHP officials said.

All lanes had reopened by 5:20 p.m., Caltrans reported.
