Republican Mike Gibbons believes his business success makes him the right choice for U.S. Senate
PLAIN TWP. – Ed Garbash does not care for the political element of governing. He would rather vote for candidates with business savvy.
He is "90%" positive Mike Gibbons is that candidate.
Gibbons, an investment banker from the Cleveland area, is one of five U.S. Senate candidates in the Republican primary vying to succeed retiring Rob Portman.

The other candidates are Josh Mandel, Jane Timken, J.D. Vance and Matt Dolan.
Gibbons' campaign stopped in Stark County on Thursday. He met voters, like Garbash, at the county party headquarters in Plain Township. Later he participated in an event at Mulligan's Restaurant & Pub in Jackson Township.
Garbash, a Green resident who works for a Perry Township company, expressed concern over the labor shortage across Ohio and the nation with Gibbons.
Garbash said he wants "to see people come back to work" and contribute. "I want somebody with business sense," to make this happen, he said.
Mike Gibbons businessman turned politician
Gibbons was born in Cleveland and grew up in Parma. He played football at St. Ignatius High School and Kenyon College. His father, Gene, was a high school teacher and wrestling coach.
His campaign bus is painted in Ignatius colors - blue and yellow - not Michigan's, he stressed.
Gibbons graduated from Kenyon, Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He founded an investment firm Brown Gibbons Lang & Co.
He and his wife, Diane, who attended Thursday's events, have five children.
Gibbons served as Ohio finance co-chairman for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. He previously ran for a Senate seat in 2018 but lost in the primary.
"We are here to win," said Tom Chufar, a local campaign official, who introduced Gibbons at the party headquarters.
Chufar said Gibbons is "a businessman who has built businesses and he has grown other people's businesses. And he absolutely understands the quandaries were are in."
"I can't be bought."
Before he ran a successful investment firm, Gibbons also landscaped and worked in construction.
"I started with nothing," he said.
Gibbons believes his business success makes him the right choice for the Senate. "I'm going to know how to balance a budget and how jobs are created," he said.
"I can't be bought. I've already lived my American dream. I'm not going there to get rich or make friends. I'm going there to restore American values."
Gibbons accused President Joe Biden and Democrats of dividing the country by "teaching people to hate each other."
He also said Democrats enjoy the higher gas prices because it helps the "climate change" narrative. He said he has no plans to be bipartisan on "socialist" issues.
Gibbons also supports an end to the Department of Education and stronger border control. He also criticized Biden for higher inflation.
