Report: Josh Minott has no plans to return to Memphis, will test NBA Draft

Memphis freshman forward Josh Minott will test the NBA Draft, ESPN's Jonathan Givony reported Thursday.

Minott will not sign with an agent, which gives him some wiggle room should he decide to play another season of college basketball. Minott told Givony he does not plan to return to Memphis.

"I don't plan to need my eligibility," Minott said. "My work ethic and talent should be able to propel me to a standing in the draft I'm comfortable with."

The deadline for eligible underclassmen to apply for draft consideration is 11:59 p.m. EST on April 24. The deadline to withdraw from the draft – and maintain their collegiate eligibility – is 5 p.m. on June 13.

The athletic 6-8 wing earned the nickname "Baby Giannis" from his teammates soon after he arrived on campus thanks to his combination of length and freakish skillset. Senior NBA columnist and former vice president of basketball operations for the Grizzlies John Hollinger wrote in early March that Minott "could crash the first round if he puts his name in."

Minott was one of just three Tigers to play in all 33 games this season. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds. He also had 22 blocks, third-most on the team behind Jalen Duren and Malcolm Dandridge. Minott shot 52.2% from the field 75.4% from the free-throw line, both fourth-best.

Minott, who made five starts and landed on the All-AAC Freshman Team, played his best when the team needed him most. As the Tigers were ravaged by injuries, the Boca Raton, Florida, native stepped up. In 12 games from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, Minott averaged 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and registered two double-doubles.
