One must dress up when planning a nuclear strike on Earth from a Moon-based lair. Space suits are so passé. Ridiculous one-liners about certain death aren't so audible when you're wearing a respirator, either. Which is lucky, as the latest James Bond villain – Rami Malek – hit the Oscars 2020 red carpet in a suit made out of pure, megalomaniacal, beautiful evil (and of the finest fabric from Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent).

At the Oscars 2020, the No Time To Die star went on a warpath in the quintessential Bond villain wardrobe. It was black, yes. But like the suits 007 favours, this double-breasted tux was razor sharp, immaculately built to add polish to the heinous warcrimes (and remain in-step with Dr. No, who Malek's Safin may or may not turn out to be).

But most importantly, the Oscar winner chose black. Infallible. Unholy. Exceedingly bulletproof. And, while Malek is unlikely to dodge the final blast of a Walther PPK in the next Bond film (because the bad guys can't really bring about the fall of civilisation as we know it... right?), it's the sort of ultimate villain wardrobe that's difficult to fault. Better yet, it works just as well in the pure, family-friendly lair of the Academy Awards.

The immaculate classic cuts of MI6 were getting dull, anyway. This season, it's all about playing – or at least dressing – like a billionaire wrong'un.
