HOLLY HILL — While that other Final Four is still being filled, Major League Pickleball's first visit to Pictona was pared to four semifinalists for Sunday's final day of action at MLP Daytona Beach.

Ben Johns, the world's top-ranked player, lost one of his four games in Friday's opening rounds, but led a 4-0 sweep Saturday by his Seattle Pioneers and moves into Sunday's Premier Level semifinals against the Los Angeles Mad Drops, beginning at 9 a.m. on the Championship Court.

All of Sunday's action, the semifinals and finals, will be on Pictona's Championship Court.

The MLP, which merged last fall with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA), will play six events in 2023, with the season broken into two mini-seasons of three events. This weekend's tournament is the second event of the year.

The MLP, with 12 teams in its Premier Level, also has a 12-team Challenger Level, which also competed at Pictona this week. The Challenger final was won Saturday by the Bay Area Breakers, who won all five of their matches over the weekend. They defeated the Dallas Pickleball Club in Saturday's final, 3-1.

The Breakers also won the season's first event — in January in Mesa, Ariz.

MLP teams feature four-player rosters, two men and two women. Matches consist of men's doubles, women's doubles, and two mixed-doubles matches. If tied at 2-2, a 21-point tiebreaker settles things.
