Playoff roundup: King's Academy basketball among county's last remaining teams
King's Academy basketball survived a dismal night for Palm Beach County basketball to become one of the last local teams standing in the FHSAA playoffs.
The Lions defeated Bell Creek Academy 66-64 to advance to Friday's region final round, surviving a bloody Tuesday in which five of Palm Beach County's seven playoff basketball teams were eliminated.
After a pair of missed King's free throws in the final 20 seconds, Bell Creek Academy (24-5) had three attempts at a tying field goal in the dying moments, but couldn't convert to extend the game.
King's (27-1) has now won 11 straight games and will play at Windermere Prep (22-7) in Friday's region championship game.
Lake Worth, Suncoast, Benjamin, Somerset-Canyons and Jupiter Christian all lost in region semifinal competition on Tuesday night.
