Pickett leads Walsh over Copley; Peterson stars for CVCA; Hoover downs St. Ignatius
BOYS BASKETBALL
Walsh Jesuit 55, Copley 48
Rico Pickett scored 18 points and Max Matta and Keith Rivers contributed nine and six, respectively, for the host Warriors (14-2) in a nonleague win Saturday.
Copley (12-3) was led by Preston Taylor and Caleb Laurich, who each had 12 points. Glen Parker added 10 for Copley, which was outscored 17-10 in the fourth quarter.
CVCA 60, East 41
Darryn Peterson (25 points) and Seth Bagwell (16) showed up in a big way for the Royals (11-6) in a win over the Dragons (8-7). Eric Holley scored 24 points for East.
North Canton Hoover 50, St. Ignatius 48
The Vikings (13-4) won their second game in a row on a last-second shot. Matt Mizner made a 3-pointer with two seconds to play to lift Hoover over host Ignatius. Hoover's Elijah Barker scored 15 points and Tanner Ware had 12.
Mizner's shot came one night after Barker made a game-winning bucket with three seconds left to give host Hoover a 49-47 win over Lake. Barker (22 points) and Ware (10 points) were also the leading scorers Friday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Aurora 62, Tallmadge 52
Ava Ryncarz made eight 3-pointers and scored 35 points for the Greenmen in a Suburban League American Conference win. Aurora's Sam Stask added eight points.
Ashlyn Severns (15), Maya Dexter (14), Sydney Becks (13) and Lexi Gray (10) scored in double figures for Tallmadge.
Copley 37, Cuyahoga Falls 21
Copley was led by Victoria McKnight's 11 points in a win over the Black Tigers, who got seven points from Jenna Roberts.
Highland 58, Kent Roosevelt 36
The Hornets (19-0, 13-0 SLAC) broke the school record for consecutive wins behind Maddie Miller (19 points), Aleena VanKirk (13) and Delaney Lawson (11). Katie Keller paced the Rough Riders with 14 points.
Wadsworth 43, Nordonia 23
Regan Simpson scored 11 points for the Grizzlies in a Suburban League National Conference win. The Knights got 10 points from Kennedy Syllaba.
Hudson 59, Brecksville 35
The Explorers (8-9, 5-4) had double-digit scoring games from Gabrielle Loring (15 points) and Ali Menendez (13) in a SLNC win over the Bees. Leah Hargreaves (11) led Brecksville.
Walsh Jesuit 57, Beaumont 32
Kara Courtad scored 12 points to lead the Warrriors. Taylor Dolson and Ces Sutton chipped in 11 points apiece and Megan Taraba contributed eight steals and seven rebounds.
Mogadore 49, St. Thomas Aquinas 40
Brooklyn McIntrye scored 23 points in a win for the host Wildcats.
Smithville 41, Manchester 35
Madi Singer (14 points) and Camryn Wickens (11) scored in double figures for the Smithies (13-5). The Panthers received 14 points from Mackenzie Moss and 12 from Rylie Petroff.
Norwayne 59, Kenmore-Garfield 31
K-G (9-7) was led by Quimari Shelton's 16 points. The Bobcats (11-7) prevailed with balanced scoring as Andrea Maibach (12 points), Annabel Stanley (10), Lily Rieman (nine) and Lacy Hess (eight) led the charge.
Triway 55, Ellet 52
Ellet (13-7) nearly came back with Caitlyn Holmes (13), Rachel Wenzel (10) and Jayden Knaff (10) leading the way. Aaliyah Wirth scored 17 to lead Triway (10-9).
Medina 56, Euclid 21
The Bees (12-7, 7-2) stayed in the Greater Cleveland Conference conversation behind Olivia Klanac (13 points) and Kate Bobey (10).
GlenOak 58, Lake 37
Kiley Dyrlund and Breezie Williams scored 18 points apiece to lead the visiting Golden Eagles (15-3, 9-2 Federal League).
Green 45, Canton McKinley 39
Alyssa Ziehler scored 12 points and Mallory Oddo had 11 points to lead visiting Green (15-4, 8-3) in a Federal League matchup of Bulldogs.
Perry 52, Jackson 46
Meredith Randulic scored 15 points and Mia Guscoff chipped in 12 points for the host Panthers (13-6, 6-5) in a Federal League game. The Polar Bears (11-6, 6-5) were paced by Lauren Pallotta (14) and Emma Dretke (13).
North Canton Hoover 45, Louisville 28
Grace Craig scored 18 points and Janet Eriksen added 11 for the visiting Vikings (12-8).
St. Vincent-St. Mary 47, Toledo Rogers 43
Dyllan Metcalf scored 17 points, Annie Watson chipped in 11 and Jazmin Torres had six to lead the Irish (13-3) to a win.
Northwest 50, Orrville 23
Lily Bottomley totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Gianna Kuhn scored 10 points to lead visiting Northwest (16-2) to a victory.
