Lebanon said an Israeli strike on central Beirut's Mar Elias district killed two people, the second such raid targeting the capital Sunday after an earlier strike killed a Hezbollah official.Earlier Sunday, a Lebanese security source said Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif was killed in a strike on central Beirut's Ras al-Nabaa district.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday that he has no plan to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin as he pledged support for Ukraine as the U.K.’s top priority at this week’s G20 summit. Speaking with reporters on the way to the meeting in Brazil, Starmer said he wouldn’t speak to Putin as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz did on Friday. The call between the two leaders, which the Kremlin said was initiated by Germany, was the first publicly announced conversation between Putin and a major head of a Western power in almost two years.

UK in talks about payments to help stop migrant flows, The Times says
The UK government is believed to be in talks with Turkey, Vietnam and officials in the Kurdistan region of Iraq about possible payments to help slow the flow of migrants heading for Britain, the Times newspaper reported on Sunday. Prime Minister Keir Starmer told reporters it was the right thing for Britain to dissuade people from leaving their home countries and making the journey which often involves perilous crossings of the Channel, the Times said. Starmer told reporters travelling with him to a Group of 20 summit in Brazil that the government had plans to tackle criminal gangs involved in people smuggling.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday "the devil is always in the details" as she spoke of a budding South America trade deal that France has vowed to block at all costs.But it "won't proceed without political agreement" among the bloc's member states, one official in von der Leyen's entourage told AFP. Von der Leyen was to meet Sunday with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that a major Russian air barrage against Ukraine on Sunday showed that Russian President Vladimir Putin "does not want peace and is not ready to negotiate". The priority for France was to "equip, support and help Ukraine to resist", Macron told reporters as he prepared to leave Argentina to attend the G20 Summit in Brazil. He declined to comment on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's call with Putin on Friday, adding that Ukraine's allies "must remain united .... on an agenda for genuine peace, that is to say, a peace that does not mean Ukraine's surrender".

The concrete outer roof on a railway station building in the northern city of Novi Sad suddenly fell on Nov. 1, crashing on the people sitting or standing below. Many in Serbia believe rampant corruption led to sloppy renovation work and consequently to the roof collapse.
