Parker Family Health Center needs Red Bank OK to grow bigger. Here's what it wants.

RED BANK - The Parker Family Health Center along Shrewsbury Avenue was already approved unanimously for an expansion last August. Now it's going back to the zoning board to ask for even more.

Their newest proposal is for a two-story addition to the existing facility, including two new exam rooms, three vaccination or blood-drawing rooms, a consultation room, a room for a social worker, seven offices or conference rooms, an elevator and two bathrooms. Solar panels are proposed to be installed on the rooftop. In August, the clinic was approved for a one-story addition with two consultation rooms, two offices and a multi-purpose room.

The clinic, which opened in 2000, provides preventative medical care for residents across Monmouth County who lack health insurance.

Within the resolution approving the clinic’s expansion in August, it says, “the board is also aware that there is a significant population in the greater Red Bank area who do not have access to adequate health care and who are otherwise medically uninsured.”

The resolution stated that the clinic has about 120 staff members and volunteers, with about 20 present at any time. The clinic sees an average of four patients an hour and about 1,300 patients a year.

The new addition will be built where there are currently three parking spaces. At the August meeting, Ed McKenna, lawyer for the clinic and former mayor of Red Bank, stated that the facility has reached a deal with its neighbors to secure four parking spaces for its patients.

McKenna also said most patients walk or arrive by taxi or ride-sharing services. He said the clinic has a deal with Uber to provide rides at no cost to patients hailing a ride to the facility.

The zoning board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
