Panthers QB Baker Mayfield celebrates Week 10 win with insane headbutts

On Thursday night, the Carolina Panthers debuted their new black helmets—ones that got quite the widespread acclaim from the football world. And even though they looked really nice, Baker Mayfield seemingly wanted to check if they felt right.

In the closing seconds of Carolina’s Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons, the fifth-year quarterback celebrated by head-butting his teammates—specifically members of the offensive line and tight end Tommy Tremble. But the thing was—those teammates were wearing their helmets, and Mayfield was not.

Despite losing his starting gig to PJ Walker, Mayfield has embraced his current backup role with the Panthers. He’s even been lauded for it, by multiple members of the team.

“Since the day he walked in the door, Baker’s been a tremendous teammate,” offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said last week. “He’s a good leader. Whether he’s been playing, whether he’s been nicked up or whether he’s been the backup—he’s there for everybody else out there. He wants to win, regardless of his role.”

Well, maybe he doesn’t have to risk a concussion in his new role by bashing his head against his teammates’ helmets. But at least he seems to be okay . . .
