OU football vs. Nebraska: Which version of the Cornhuskers will the Sooners see?

NORMAN — OU will face Nebraska at 11 a.m. Saturday on the road.

The No. 6-ranked Sooners (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) are fresh off a 33-3 win over Kent State in Week 2, while the Cornhuskers (1-2, 0-1 Big Ten) are now led by interim head coach Mickey Joseph following a 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern.

3 players to watch for OU-Nebraska

OU wide receiver Theo Wease: Marvin Mims stole the show against Kent State. The junior wide receiver racked up seven receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns, but OU would be ecstatic if another wideout could lighten the load for Mims against Nebraska. That guy could be Wease, a redshirt junior wide receiver who has six receptions for 74 yards so far this season.

OU running back Marcus Major: Major continues to close the gap between himself and lead running back Eric Gray. The redshirt junior has 12 carries for 92 yards (7.7 yards per carry) so far this season, and his three touchdowns matches his total from the past three campaigns combined. Major should get another opportunity to shine against a Nebraska defense that's surrendering an average of 207.3 rushing yards per game.

OU linebacker Danny Stutsman: The linebacker position is arguably the most crucial position on defense, and Stutsman has handled the role well for OU. The sophomore recorded a career-high 12 tackles against Kent State, which included four tackles for loss and one sack. Stutsman has emerged as one of the Sooners' most promising prospects, and he'll look to continue his upward trajectory against Nebraska.

2 big questions for OU-Nebraska

Will Dillon Gabriel let loose? Gabriel has been the poster child for efficiency through two games with the Sooners. He has gone 36-for-51 through the air for 529 yards and six total touchdowns. The numbers are good, but they don't jump off the stat sheet. While there's nothing wrong with being a safe quarterback, Gabriel will have an opportunity to put up big numbers against a shaky Nebraska defense this weekend.

Which version of Nebraska will OU get? It's no secret that there's some turmoil in Lincoln right now, and there are two ways Saturday's contest can unfold. Nebraska can look like the same team that's 0-10 in one-possession games since 2021, but it could also look like a team that's eager to turn a new leaf with an upset victory.

Eric Gray will rush for over 150 yards: Gray has only eclipsed 150 rushing yards twice throughout his four-year college career, but he'll have a legitimate opportunity to do it on Saturday. Nebraska's defensive line hasn't been able to assert its dominance at the line of scrimmage this season, and Gray could capitalize with a monster performance.
