Orange Crush is over. Peach Fest is planned. Tybee officials warn of gun violence threats.

Another spring break-like beach party may be headed for Tybee Island, and the city's police force is warning of threats of gun violence tied to the event.

Promoted online as "Peach Fest", the gathering is a follow-up party to last weekend's Orange Crush. A social media message shared Thursday by the Tybee Island Police Department via its Facebook page reads, "There is going to be a gang shootout on Tybee Island at Peach Fest so nobody go to Tybee this weekend!!! Tell your friends."

Peach Fest has been advertised on social media for Saturday, April 29. Following a chaotic Orange Crush weekend in which tens of thousands of visitors flocked to the beach, local law enforcement agencies have pledged additional resources for this anticipated event.

Orange Crush was marred by multiple traffic accidents as well as several violent incidents, including a physical assault on the beach and what police labeled a "road rage" shooting along U.S. 80 near Fort Pulaski National Monument.

"Based on recent experiences, we take this situation extremely seriously. This information has been shared with our officers and law enforcement partners as we continue to make preparations for the likelihood of a large scale gathering this weekend," wrote the TIPD.

The Chatham County Police Department, Chatham Sherriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol, Chatham Emergency Services, Savannah Fire Department, as well as staff from the Department of Natural Resources, will be present on the island and its beach this weekend.

In response to the gun threat, city manager Shawn Gillen said TIPD has arranged for additional officers to patrol the island this weekend.

"We are taking these threats seriously and preparing for it," said Gillen.

Tybee city staff have posted a rundown of their preparations on the city's website.

According to Tybee Mayor Shirley Sessions, the appropriate public safety units with the county, Savannah and GSP have been notified of the gun threat. Sessions said the city has reached out to the school district as well about the message.

"If anyone is planning on coming to Tybee, they need to be prepared," said Sessions, "We’re not going to allow the out-of-control behavior we saw last weekend. It’s not going to be a setting where people can do what they want to without consequences."
