Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have made a huge return to UK telly on The One Show… but something is a bit off.

Alex Jones and guest presenter Michael Ball welcomed one of the world's "greatest" couples to the BBC chatshow on Wednesday (July 29) to promote their new improvised Disney+ series Muppets Now.

Though the Muppet duo were hilarious as they bantered with Alex and Michael, viewers were distracted because Kermit didn't really sound like Kermit – he sounded a bit more like Big Bird, to be honest!

Viewers were quick to point out their confusion, with one asking: "What on Earth happened to Kermit's voice!"

Another joked that Kermit's "voice has broken", while one claimed that the "disastrous" development came just as they were convinced "2020 couldn't get any worse".

"What’s the story with Kermits voice @TheMuppets has he a frog in his throat?" a person cleverly asked.

This isn't the first time UK viewers have been confused by Kermit's voice of late — the same thing happened when he guested on This Morning recently.

But there's actually quite a simple explanation.

The long-time voice of Kermit the Frog, Steve Whitmire, was fired a few years back and has been replaced by fellow Muppets veteran Matt Vogel — who now voices Big Bird on Sesame Street as well!

Wednesday's One Show was not just dominated by vocal confusion. Missy Piggy and Kermit finally cleared up their relationship status after revealing that they locked down separately over the past few months.

"Moi and Kermit are still good friends and work colleagues, but for the time being, we are living our own separate lives like so many people these days," Miss Piggy sadly confirmed.

In addition to Muppets Now premiering on Disney+, Kermit told The One Show that he's anxious to get back on the big screen in Fifty Shades of Green or The Kerminator. Back to the drawing board with those jokes, Fozzy!

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays on BBC One at 7pm. Muppets Now will be available on Disney+ from July 31.
