Onaway baseball powers past Bellaire
ONAWAY – The offense was terrific for the Onaway baseball team, which smashed Bellaire with 20-4 and 15-2 victories in a Ski Valley sweep on Tuesday.
Gavin Green had a team-high four hits, including a triple, and knocked in four runs to lead the Cardinals (13-9) in the opener. The Cardinals featured a plethora of players with two hits, including Austin Veal (two doubles, two RBI, run), Bridger Peel (triple, RBI, three runs), Cole Selke (double, RBI, two runs), Dylan Szymoniak (two RBI, run), and Tucker Price (two runs). Jack Morgan (two RBI, two runs), Cody Ruppert (three runs) and Mason Beebe (run) each recorded a hit.
Szymoniak was Onaway’s winning pitcher, striking out five, walking five and allowing two hits in three innings.
Jadin Mix, who had a team-high three hits and scored three runs, fueled Onaway’s hitting attack in the nightcap. Lucas Lovelace had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, while Price had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, Ruppert had a hit and scored a run, and Green had a hit. Justin Kramer (RBI, run), Brendon Brewbaker (two runs) and Beebe (RBI, run) also chipped in for the Cardinals.
Mix earned the win on the mound, striking out 11, walking four and allowing two hits in four innings of work. Price, who pitched one inning, struck out three, allowed a hit and walked one.
Onaway heads to Posen for a non-conference twinbill on Friday.
