McGuiggan, the team’s starting quarterback, had two interceptions on defense, including a pick six to put the Cougars up 8-0 with 10:13 left in the first quarter.

McGuiggan also had a one-yard touchdown run and later connected with Shawn Markham on a 35-yard touchdown pass that was set up by his second interception of the game. McGuiggan added a two-point conversion pass to Trevor Taveira.

“He’s an excellent player on both sides of the ball,” said Old Colony head coach Brandon Mendez. “He’s a big key for us and a leader for us.”

Jake O’Neill had a 15-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion while Ryan Silva had a six-yard TD run, a pair of two-point conversions and a PAT. In addition to his touchdown catch, Markham ran for a three-yard TD and had a conversion run. Freshman Max Finney scored on a five-yard run to cap the scoring for Old Colony. It was the first time the Cougars have scored more than 50 points since 2015.

“Offensively, we played great,” Mendez said. “We ran the ball well. We stuck with our double wing all night and just had great success running off tackle. It was an excellent offensive effort.”

The Cougars will visit Nashoba next week in the semifinals at a date and time to be determined.

“To still be able to vie for a vocational championship, the kids are proud of that,” Mendez said.
